Dr. Effie Avgoustis

 

 
Over the course of her career, Dr. Effie Avgoustis has trained and worked in various mental health settings (Reach Out Centre for Kids, Chedoke McMaster Childrens’ Hospital, Peel Children’s Center) and school boards (Peel District School Board, Toronto District School Board). Since 2012, she has been providing psychological services to children and their families in private practice while continuing to consult with community agencies and school boards.  
Dr. Avgoustis has extensive experience conducting thorough and comprehensive psychological assessments regarding learning, attentional and autism spectrum disorders. She offers therapeutic intervention through a client centered, integrative approach incorporating various theoretical orientations and therapeutic modalities (e.g., Emotion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy).
She has had the pleasure of working with children and adolescents struggling with neurodevelopmental, behavioural, mood and interpersonal issues to enhance their individual coping strategies. In addition, she has worked collaboratively with parents/caregivers to support their understanding of developmental and mental health concerns impacting their children including emotion regulation, attentional concerns, anxiety and depression, and interpersonal communication.
Dr. Avgoustis is in the process of expanding her practice to include working with adults to enrich her skills as a clinician by having a full lifespan perspective. Her areas of clinical interest include depression, anxiety disorders, interpersonal and relationship difficulties, stress management, adjustment issues, and grief/bereavement. She is completing her licensure with adults through the College of Psychologists of Ontario under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Lohnes.
